  • First oncology visit

Friday 5/15/09  I visited the oncology office today for a whirlwind tour and 6 hours of tests.  I was in shock and little registered as I found out yesterday.  I had blood drawn, a CT scan, an MRI and a consultation.  It looks like I will have 3 to 4 chemo treatments, surgery and then 6 months more of chemo.  Not quite what I had planned for summer break.

 Hi!

I am afraid by the time you read this you already went to the doctor. I also kept track of what meds I was taking at what time, I also kept track of my pain level for the doctor. You know the 1-10 scale.  I actually had a folder with the information.  It also had questions along the way for when I saw the doctor. The doctor always asked what meds I was taking when so this made it alot easier and he was able to fine tune my needs for a more comfortable experience. I was always interested in the stats when they took my blood. I had the nurse explain it to me then I compared it each time and asked questions.  I am very proactive with this disease. I just feel that if you get the information needed, I would know what to expect and it just made it easier for me.  And unfortunately I am at high risk for recurrance so I kept all the information just in case.

Well I hope this helps you. The most important part is to listen to your body and don't have the thought "I can endure this"   Tell your doctor what is going on no matter how insignificant you may think it is.

My prayers are for a smooth ride over the next year.
