A LITTLE ABOUT ME

I'm 45 years old, never really get sick except for the lump my husband found in my breast back in June.  My bioposy was finally done and I was told I had cancer on July 23rd, had a mastectomy on Sept 11th where they found 5 cancerous lymph nodes. I've now just finished my 2nd round of chemo and have 4 more to go.  Due to the lymph node involvement I will also need radiation which I'm really not happy about due to the fact that it increases my risk of lymphedema and will most likely completely burn my chest area which really saddens me since reconstruction will be alot harder now.  I would love to hear any advice from others that have had to make a decision similar to mine.

  • Day 7 after first chemo not so bad!

Just wanted to say hi since I've never done this before and say how helpful it is to read about other people's stories; it really does help to feel not so alone.  I had my first treatment on Oct 31st and I'm feeling pretty good, still have some achiness caused by the Neulasta shot but now I'm on the hairloss countdown and it's definitely a scary feeling.  I think I'll pick up my new wig on Monday and shave my head then just to get it over with!  One thing I learned is that everything that seems impossible and scary like mastectomy, chemo and now hair loss is that once you experience it you realize you CAN get through it and it's not necessarily as bad as you thought it would be.  I'm not going to allow cancer to win by killing my spirit so heads up everyone, we'll get through this!
