Why do they want to wait

  •

I was told today during an ultrasound they found a small solid mass in my left breast. They want to wait 6 months and check it again to see if it grows and has a shadow. Why would you find something and wait 6 months to see if it grows? Any one had this? Thank you.

I had a lump in my armpit and the family doc said wait. I went to the GYN and she said go to surgeon, he took it out. My lump was a breast tumor but it was thankfully benign. Had it been malignant it would have spread to my lymph nodes. Don't wait for a lump, my best friend is fighting stage 4 head and neck cancer and the oncologist told us NO LUMP IS NORMAL so keep pushing until someone listens and get the thing out of your body. most things are not cancer but until it is gone you will never have any peace of mind.  Good Luck and keep us posted, the women here are great and can help you no matter what the outcome.

I agree with LoLo.  Go have it biopsied.  Its better to have the piece of mind instead of waiting for 6 months to drag by.  It may be nothing, and i wil pray that its just an old cyst!  Keep us posted, we are rifht here for you!

PIECE  of mind, Patty? Well, that about says it. All I have left is a piece of my mind. lol.

Anyway, I agree with the girls. You can't wait on something like this. Go have it checked out now by another doctor.

Piece of mind---my foot-- get a second opinion.  I did just that and had a lumpectomy instead of a mastectomy.  It can't hurt to get a second opinion.  What is the wait for to see if it grows some more.  Maybe it's a cyst like one of the other ladies mentioned - that sometimes happens.  But do find out definitely now instead of waiting.

Lots of good wishes to you.

    Hello,

Totally agree with the aforementioned sentiments - one thing I have learned from this whole experience is the 'seeking of a 2nd opinion' was vital and the difference of medical opinions and medical approachs adopted varied. So find out for sure and best of luck

    Keep well

I wanted to update everyone. I spoke with my doctor after she reviewed the results. She said because of the shape of the Nodule she knew it was not cancer.  They want me to come back in 6 months to have a 2nd ultra sound to have something to compare the first one to. She said they will be looking to see if it has grown or changed shape. It worries me because I had a complete hysterectomy 4 years ago and I take a hormone daily. The instructions say may cause cancer. I can understand her explanation but I also feel like if you see something go ahead and take it out don’t wait to see if it grows?

I'm 33 and was 32 when I found a lump in my left breast and I went to see my gyn and she sent me for an ultrasound then mammogram all in the same week.  The following week I saw a surgeon who told me that a mass is not normal and with my family history he planned to do a lumpectomy which turned into a partial masectomy.  He took out more tissue to be safe and to ensure clean margins.  I saw an oncologist the following week.  Then had my lymph nodes checked and had a complete dissection (only 2 of 17) were cancerous.  But I firmly believe in early detection because it saved my life.  I had 6 months of tx (chemo and radiation).  it's better to be on the safe side when it comes to the question of cancer.

Even if your doctor is right, and I hope that she is, it would not hurt to get a 2nd opinion, and it would give you peace of mind.

I agree with everyone else. If your concerned you should get a 2nd opinion.  A good doctor would not be insulted by that in fact they usually welcome it.  Hope it goes well.

I Think I would get that second opinion.Although I did not have a hysterectomy I did take hormone replacement thearpy and did get Breast Cancer after 3yrs of taking although I dont know if that is what caused my BC I think it played a big part in it HUGS

I'm now a big believer in second opinions.  My first doctor told me I was a good candidate for a lumpectomy, "breast conservation"  she called it.  Didn't really offer any alternative. Two days before my rushed surgery I went to the best Breast Care Center in Boston and was presented with a different scenario where I had more than one option.  I chose to have a mastectomy with immediate reconstruction so now not only do I have piece of mind, no radiation, I have bigger boobs! (gotta find that silver lining).
