What were your 1st symptoms?

  •

Hello, I have been reading your threads and you are all so great to support one another. Thank God the internet was invented because we all need an outlet. I pray for each of you. I have been wondering if I should see a doctor as I'm having some pain/soreness in my lower left breast and was wondering if anyone had any similar symptoms before being diagnosed? I can't tell if there are any lumps as they always feel lumpy to me. I have been having this pain for about a week. Should I be worried? .Any help would be much appreciated.

I have had a somewhat burning sensation in my right breast, just inside the cleavage area, for about 6 months.  It would twinge and then go away, so I didn't think anything about it.  Eight weeks ago I found a lump just above the nipple.  It was tender to push on and about the width of my fingertip.  Having had lumps before, I decided to watch it and see what happened with my next period.  It didn't go away and in fact, felt larger although it no longer was tender.  I saw my MD who had me get a mammogram, chest x-ray and ultrasound.  The radiologist found "microcalcifications" and referred me to a breast surgeon.  She did another ultrasound, and then a ultrasound-guided core biopsy.  The results were "cancer".  She did tell me that the all of the radiology tests I had done, could not detect the lump and if I hadn't found it myself, it may have gone un-noticed for a while.  I hope this helps you!

Thank you Jomola63. I'm so sorry that you were diagnosed with it. How long have you been fighting? Thanks for replying. I just didn't know if the pain warranted a trip to the Dr. The information that most websites have say that pain is usually not a sign unless its in the later stages. Also, I had my period last week so the pain should not be associated with my period. I will set up an appointment with the Dr asap.

Jomola63, I'm sorry, I see that you told me it started around 6 months ago.

    HI

just wanted to give you something to think about.....in dec.i felt a marble sized lump under my left armpit. I had ultrasound, mamogram and they both came back neg. i saw a surgeon and he said that we would try first an atibiotic and then a anti-inflamamtory drug to see if there were any changes. went back last week. still there. in my case, he said there was inflamation on that one side and prob would be there, but sometimes there is differences on each side. my lump was small, smooth and round and it hurt in the beginning/all good signs.i go back in july.  basically with every test done and coming back neg. he could do a biopsy but he feels like it would be an uneccessary procedure.  seems mine could be inflammed aux. tail tissue. (aka - inflamation of the breast tissue under the arm pit. He did say that me being very thin may have made me more aware of something.  I don't really know your situation, however maybe my story will help.  Find a really good surgeon that  you trust and like.  my surgeons wife had breast cancer so he was especially empathetic to my concerns. take care, mary

     Blessingsx4;

Welcome to this wonderful site where many women will share their experiences with you.  Please keep in mind that everyone's case is unique.

I discovered a lump in the upper quadrant (near armpit) of my left breast.  It was obvious that it was a lump.  In hindsight I can share with you a couple symptoms that I experienced.  For 6-9 months I had a feeling of engorgement, a full feeling in my breast.  I experienced some pain and my nipples were always tender.  I had night sweats for 3 months before I found the lump.

If you are questioning any of your symptoms please call and make an appointment with your family physician or your OB-GYN.  It will ease your mind to have a professional opinion.

If you have additional concerns or questions please post them so that others here can help you.  You will be in my prayers and thoughts and remember to let us know how things are going.

Hi. I don't think you should worry until there is something to worry about. However, you should definitely go to a doctor and have it checked out. If it turns out to be nothing, that's wonderful. But better safe than sorry. Good luck, and I pray that I don't have to welcome you to our club. Please keep us posted.

I had some pain on and off for about 6 months before I noticed the lump.  I kept telling myself that it was nothing - I've had 3 biospies over the last 30 years for lumps that all turned out to be nothing.  I convinced myself that this lump would be nothing too, but am I ever glad I "made a fool of myself" and went to the doctor.  My surgeon tells me this lump has probably been growing inside of me for at least 2 years, and after beating myself up for not running to the doctor 6 months ago, I realized that it wouldn't have mattered at that point.  I couldn't feel the lump, the radiology tests still wouldn't have detected it, so it would have been at least another 6 months from now that I would have had a mammogram that "might" have picked up on the lump.  That revelation made me realize I have been really lucky after all.

ANY time you feel somethings wrong- get it checked! I had a lump under /in my  arm pit that was "an infection" But I didnt feel right and the Dr encouraged me to go ahead and get a mamogram(Id already had several due to family history) I went and they found calcifactionand i was diagnosed with D-1 stage B.C.IT literally saved my life.I also opted to treat it aggressively with a double Mastectomy. My surgeon DIDNT want to do both as C. was found in only one. But my "gut" made me insist- to the point of telling the Dr that if he wouldnt do it I would find someone who would! He finally agreed. After the surgery, he came into my room with the oddest look on his face and said they found abnormal pre-C cells; to small to br-e detected on any standard test!!SO listen to your body- if you feel something is wrong-DONT push it aside or leta Dr refuse to do as you ask.You are the ONLY one who REALLY knows your body and how it feels .Dont ignor its signals to you. It could save your life.Youll be in my prayers,Carol/nana

Blessing I didnt really have any signs except areally saggy left Breast, and a gut feeling this may not be right. Please at least get a mammogram. If all in fine it is good news and your mammogram will always be on file and each time you go in they can compare it to your last check up for changes.

I'd always read that pain is NOT a symptom of breast cancer. I began having a sharp pain in my right breast that decreased to simple tenderness. I mentioned the tenderness but noone paid attention. Had an ultrasound and biopsy and it came back positive for cancer. I had a lumpectomy and the surgeon sent me for radiation. I expressed concern about the radiation making my breast sore, but he glossed over it. Whenever I questioned the cause of the original pain, he glossed over it. I had to stop rads after only 6 treatments because the pain is horrendous. I am now on 240 mg oxycontin daily, 300mglyrica daily with about 8-10 percosets in between for breakthrough pain. I go for an MRI on Friday and get my results the Thursday after.  The pills make me so weak and dopey, but at least they keep the pain under control. My nipple is sooooooo sore, if it even lightly brushes or touches something, the pain is excruciating.

Like Italian_Girl, I'd been told that pain wasn't a symptom of cancer. I was actually very lucky. I noticed a lump in my breast that was very small and tender about 2 1/2 months ago, when I was reading in bed. My book just happened to hit that point and made it sore. It disappeared really quick, though, so I ignored it. It wasn't until a month ago that I realized it still hurt... and the lump was much easier to find. Even so, my doctor (and everyone else) was convinced it would be nothing. Thankfully my doctor is also an amazing practitioner and had it checked anyway. Even though it didn't follow any of the normal signs (no history, pain, much younger age than expected) they found cancer. Thank God they checked it out. So definitely take the time to go and see what's bothering you. At the very least, they can probably stop the pain and, at the most, might catch something that could be devestating if ignored. God bless, and I hope only good news is waiting for you.

Because you are questioning the spot it is worth checking it out.  That way you can get it off of your mind.  And if it is something you do not let it just stay.

I believe that God put it into my head to check out my breast.  My doctor told me I could wait 6 months and check it out again.  For some reason I felt that I needed to check with someone else so I had a second opinion and found out that 1/2 of my breast had DCIS cancer.  By 6 months it could have been in my nodes.

Keep in touch and let us know what you find out.
