Joint pain after Chemo

  •

Has anyone experienced joint pain after chemo. I finished chemo on April 1 (taxotere and Cytoxan) and still have joint pain in my ankles, knees, wrists and fingers.  It feel like what I would think arthritis would be.  When I get up from sitting for any length of time I can hardly walk and then it lets up after being up for awhile.

Just wondered if anyone else has experienced this.

Lori - yes I had the same combination as you and I did have joint pain.  I had alot more after they gave me the booster shot for the white blood cells.  It you had that, it could be adding to it as well.  Mine lasted about 4/5 days after treatment and then went away.   I had four chemo treatments but am done with them now.   Go to the doc this Thursday for followup bloodwork - then on to Arimidex.   Good luck to you

     hi lori,

don't know if i had the same  regimen as you for chemo but i do know i have alot of aches and pains, just the same as you explained, it hurts me more at night though. sometimes its hard for me  to walk up the stairs takes me about 10 mins, me and the kids joke and laugh about it all ya know, when you come to think of it i do look pretty silly when i use to be able to run up the stairs, but in time i will be running up the again.

by the way, once i get myself up them stairs, and catch my breath too, i turn to a nice warm bath with a little epsom salt and relax for little while does help a little.

good luck and blessings to you,

    lisa

joint pain was so terrible when I went through chemo. There were many times I had to use a cane, My last chemo was
Sept 08. Now I have just a little backlash of it. Every day is a great day if I can get up and breath fresh air. There is always going to be crap we don't want to deal with. I have all this skin around my missing breast that is so yuky I don't know what to do with it. Any advice. Annelle

Hi, I am having a lot of joint pains, bone pains and stiffness. Like yousaid it feels like bad arthritis pain. It makes me feel like 46 going on 70.  I finished  with Taxol on 18th of May. Doctors say it is from the chemo med. I am taking Celebrex and Darvocet. But some days it's bad. Gentle stretching helps too. I wish you all best of luck.

Hi lori. I had the same chemo drugs you did. I have experienced the same things you are.  I still have the problem, i think that our bodies are so beat up from surgeries, chemo, rads...mine is a little better, but like you after sitting for a while, or 1st thing in the am, i hobble around until it goes away.  I hope it gets better over time....ahhhh cancer, the gift that keeps on giving! Hang in there Lori, we will get thru this!

I am so glad to hear that the chemo can cause us pain!!  My lower back and neck areas hurt as well as my ankles.  I thought it was just old age.  I'm 57 which isn't that old.

I had my 3rd chemo 2 days ago and it kicked my butt!!!  I am soooo tired.  I had to have the steroid and I was up all night with restless leg syndrome.  NO MORE STEROIDS for me.  I am also a little "weepy" today but I guess that is to be expected.

I did get a wig from the American Cancer Society.  It's cute but not how I wore my hair.  It's just nice to have as a security blanket.  Does that make sense?

I am glad you ladies are here to help.  We are one unique group of women.

    Hugs to all,

    Karen

     Karen,

I remember my third Chemo. IT WAS THE WORST. I had 4 rounds of chemo and after the 3rd I hurt, I was tired, I broken out in hives (some in some rather sensitive areas! if you know what I mean). It took me at least 2 weeks to start feeling even alittle better. Then I was in for round 4 which I really dreaded because of how the last one affected me, but I breezed through #4. It is really strange how this chemo thing works on our bodies. I finished my Chemo on April 1, 2009 and the joint pain is still with me. I think I still have fluid buildup in my joints which is causing the discomfort. Good luck with the rest of your treatment and CHIN UP!

Thanks ladies for all the posts. It is reassuring to know others have these same aches and pains.

I asked my doctor about having bone pain and he told that I would not have any pain, the side effects are not that bad.  OUCH!

I will need 4 doses, 1 every three weeks.   But if my onco DX comes back low maybe I won't take chemo.  Any suggestions?

Hi Lori, I'm new here but I wanted to join in and say that I had the same chemo treatment as you and even finished on the same day (April 1). I still have joint pain especially in my knees and ankles and also intermittent muscle cramps in my legs. It's really annoying and all the the dr. has been able to tell me is that maybe it's related to lower estrogen levels. I feel sure it is the chemo though...I have done some searching and read that it can take some months for all the aches and pains to go away but that it does eventually get better. Guess we all have to hang in there. =) Claudia
