Why is my HAIR growing back so slowly?

  •

(sorry, I left the word "Hair" off my subject, but just added it!  Blame it on chemo brain!!! :)    I finished chemo in February 08 and radiation in June 08 and my hair is still not growing back in very well.  It was always very thick and coarse, but is coming in wispy and baby fine. Altho it is about an inch long in the back and sides, it is sparse and there is almost no new growth on top. It looks like the typical male-pattern baldness. Everything I have read says your hair should regrow in 6 months to a year, but it is not happening for me. I also still have only 3 eyebrow hairs (yes three total for both eyes) and no lashes. I have used Nioxin shampoo everyday for the past year and use a hair fertilizer cream on my head twice a day. Can anyone offer any other solutions? I take Femara and someone told me that makes your hair thin and/or grow back slower, but I woudlnt' think this slow! I miss my hair! :) Vicki

Usually, hair grows 2-3 inches per year.

Hopefully, the top will catch up with the back.

(The girl's don't call post-chemo hair "dog but" for nuthin!)

Most of us have to put up with the uglies for a while.

I hope it gets better soon.

Thanks for the reply -- you made me grin and, hey, we all know a sense of humor is key to wellness. This time last year my hair was falling out, so I guess I shouldn't complain that it's looking a little canine this year :) Have a happy Thanksgiving!

It is frustrating being the cancer patient.

    Get well soon!

I said a Prayer for Ya! Maybe you need to take a break from the shampoo & fertilizer for awhile...just use a good shampoo & cond. & let your scalp breath ...I mean this in a good way, ok? GOD Bless You & may BOTH of Us have pretty hair! Mine came back in very curly & thick, never was before...THEN, I began taking Statins (for high Cholesterol) & My hair is falling out...& there seems to be nothing I can do about it! Good Luck!

    Hugs & Prayers,

    Sherry
